Minority Investments

An aligned partner while the owner keeps control

2%–49.9%   minority ownership range
HartField may invest between 2% and 49.9% in select service businesses. The exact ownership position will depend on the time HartField commits to the business, the overall retainer and compensation arrangement, and whether HartField contributes cash or other equity capital. The owner remains in control, and HartField works actively alongside the owner and leadership team.
Great businesses deserve great futures.
What We Look For

People first. Businesses second.

Multi-location service businesses
Service, facilities and industrial businesses where operating execution drives outcomes. This may include HVAC, pest control, restoration, plumbing, electrical, roofing, landscaping, commercial mechanical and adjacent services.
Strong local reputation
Businesses trusted by customers. Strong brands are difficult to build. We prefer preserving them rather than replacing them.
Leadership potential
We are not simply evaluating businesses. We are evaluating people. Strong leadership creates optionality.
Opportunities for improvement
Not broken businesses. Not perfect businesses. Businesses where productivity, systems, leadership, technology, and execution can create additional value.
Geography
North America
Preference
Founder or entrepreneur-led

When a minority investment may fit

A minority investment is selective. It may follow an operating assessment or advisory relationship, but neither is required. HartField invests only where there is a strong fit, clear alignment and a real opportunity to add operating value.
The owner wants to continue leading and retain control
The business needs capital for growth, acquisitions, systems, leadership or expansion
The owner wants partial liquidity but not a full sale
The company has a strong foundation and clear opportunities to increase EBITDA
HartField can add meaningful operating value in addition to capital
Doug has skin in the game and shares in the value created alongside the owner. This is not a buyout, a private-equity fund or a buy-and-build strategy.
